Semiparametric Estimation of a Dynamic Game of Incomplete Information
نویسندگان
چکیده
Recently, empirical industrial organization economists have proposed estimators for dynamic games of incomplete information. In these models, agents choose from a finite number actions and maximize expected discounted utility in a Markov perfect equilibrium. Previous econometric methods estimate the probability distribution of agents’ actions in a first stage. In a second step, a finite vector of parameters of the period return function are estimated. In this paper, we develop semiparametric estimators for dynamic games allowing for continuous state varaibles and a nonparametric first stage. The estimates of the structural parameters are T consistent (where T is the sample size) and asymptotically normal even though the first stage is estimated nonparametrically. We also propose sufficient conditions for identification of the model. ∗We would like to thank the National Science Foundation and the Sloan Foundation for generous research support. We would also like to thank John Krainer for detailed comments on an earlier draft.

This paper proposes a dynamic game approach to distributed energy resource (DER) expansion planning from investors’ viewpoint with incomplete information. An innovative framework is proposed here to encounter different aspects of DER planning. Wind turbines, gas engines and combined heat and power (CHP) are considered as DERs in this study. For reducing the risk of investment, some suppor...
متن کاملNonparametric and Semiparametric Analysis of a Dynamic Discrete Game
In this paper, we study the identification and estimation of a dynamic discrete game allowing for discrete or continuous state variables. We first provide a general nonparametric identification result under the imposition of an exclusion restrictions on agents payoffs. Next we analyze large sample statistical properties of nonparametric and semiparametric estimators for the econometric dynamic ...
متن کاملInformation Structure and Statistical Information in Discrete Response Models1
Discrete response models are of high interest in economics and econometrics as they encompass treatment effects, social interaction and peer effect models, and discrete games. We study the impact of the structure of information sets of economic agents on the Fisher information of (strategic) interaction parameters in such models. While in complete information models the information sets of part...
متن کاملMaximum Likelihood and Semiparametric Estimation in Logistic Models with Incomplete Covariate Data
Maximum likelihood estimation of regression parameters with incomplete covariate information usually requires a distributional assumption about the concerned covariates which implies a source of misspeciication. Semiparametric procedures avoid such assumptions at the expense of eeciency. A simulation study is carried out to get an idea of the performance of the maximum likelihood estima-tor und...
متن کاملAPPLICATION OF GAME THEORY IN DYNAMIC COMPETITIVE PRICING WITH ONE PRICE LEADER AND N DEPENDENT FOLLOWERS
In this research UF cheese pricing is considered and Pegah, Pak, Kaleh, Rouzaneh and Mihan firms’ data, as five main UF cheese competitive firms of Iran in breakfast cheese competitive market, is used. By using these firm’s sales data, production data and price of each ton of UF cheese in nineteen work-periods (each work-period is 6 months), their sales equations are estimated for each work-pe...
